Yah', so that would be me. A note came home from school yesterday about "Beach Day"--they were supposed to wear swimsuits, bring towels, and bring a sack lunch. I read the note, looked at the calendar---it was for next Tuesday (or so I thought), put the note on the fridge to remind me, and went about my day. This morning I got the boys ready and took them to Grammy's and I went to work--just a normal Tuesday. Well, when I got home tonight Cameron calmly said, "Mom, I missed Beach Day. Everybody else had their lunches and swimsuits, but me." Then the waterworks came---his, not mine. (Mine came after we put the boys to bed.) Oh my goodness, I feel awful. Like being a mom isn't hard enough, but when you screw-up like this, it just brings on a whole new level of guilt.
After making a dozen phone calls, I will be taking Cam tomorrow to the AF Target to buy Lego Batman for the xBox 360. It will forever be known as the, "my mom is a dumbass game."
Totally been there, done that!! I've missed Wear and Share day like 5 times. The guilt really is fun, isn't it???
ReplyDeleteYou sweet little moms! You both are great moms! I remember the days! But, OF COURSE, your mom and I have NEVER done anything like that! And look how good you turned out! This too shall pass! :)
ReplyDeleteAt least you have an excuse - hooray for "pregnancy brain"! I'm sure that doesn't lessen the guilt though...because we mothers have superhuman powers when it comes to that. At least Cam will enjoy his new game!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I totally don't think you're the worst mother ever! :)
So sorry,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he'll enjoy the new game tons & want you to forget another important event!
I'm just offended cause you were less than 5 minutes away and didn't stop by! You better add Worst Friend Ever to that title too! J/K love you!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Cam was not the only one. I've been to school on those days and there are always some other kids not dressed up. Can't we turn this some way so that it's Chad's fault, not yours :)
Ouch! Gotta love that guilt. I'm sure you're not the WORST mom ever. There must be a few higher on the list than you. :) And you know, if something like that happens in my house, I'd immediately shoot higher on the list than you (if I'm not there already). Because there's no way my kid would get a new game out of it. A ice cream cone, maybe...Maybe.
ReplyDeletewe have all done it, or will do it...espcially as they get older and you get more kids. Can't be expected to remember EVERYTHING...
ReplyDeletei got a lecture yesterday because i wont' go buy them all new slippers to wear on dr seuss slipper day....I am worst mom today! Forget the rolls that I made for activity days or the 2 hours i spent shuffling them back and forth between gymnastics and the church, or the dinner that was on the table, or the playdate/shopping trip on Monday....I suck because I won't go buy new slippers.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I can't even tell you how hard I laughed at this. I sooooo understand! You are such a wonderful mom (even MINUS beach day!)
